The virtual tour guide will focus on the historic centre of Sighişoara / Schassburg and its fortified church. Its development is understood to be an exploration and piloting of novel approaches to the promotion of an active but sensitive cultural tourism in the region.

This involves the identification of stories and intriguing historic facts that allow for relating to places and objects within and around the World Heritage site. Particularly the virtual tour guide should help visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the multicultural history and live in Sighişoara.

The guide will allow for exploring three thematic trails that invite visitors to explore the history and cultural richness of Sighişoara:

• The development of the urban environment of the town and the history of particular buildings and places (from the beginning in the 12th century to the present),
• The social life of the citizens, craftsmen and peasants in and around the town,
• The natural and human threats that Sighişoara has faced during its history.

The trails will be interlinked to allow for exploring aspects on all three dimensions and there will be a database with extra information for people who whish to see more illustrative images, read a subject expert’s text on special features of an object or learn more about local products.
