Gorlice Learning Quest

Approach and Cultural Stories

In the development of the learning quests for the region of Gorlice pupils of the age of 13-15 years will become “cultural ambassadors” of the World Heritage sites St Michael Archangel Church in Binarowa and St Philip and Jacob Church in SÄ™kowa.  The architecture, interior and particular objects and paintings of these wooden churches present rich religious and cultural meanings and regional contexts that await being discovered, studied and mediated by the pupils.

In a first step, the pupils are invited to find out and write about the history of the region based on documents and images that relate to the churches and their role in the social live of the region. In this work the pupils will be supported by librarians and archivists of the Administrative District of Gorlice.

In a second step, the pupils will participate in the development of a game-like learning quest that will build on their study results and be made accessible online.
Through this approach the pupils will learn how to study historic resources and stimulate others, residents as well as visitors, to think about and develop a deeper understanding of the region.
