Local / regional Context

The Eastern Rhodolpi region faces many development challenges of which not the least is the impact of the economic restructuring of the last decade. Traditional occupations like tobacco-growing and mining have for over a decade now been in decline, and the local people are looking for alternative opportunities.

The overall goal is to achieve a solid regional economic development for the benefit of the citizens, also removing social barriers faced by vulnerable groups and ethnic minorities in the region. The development of public-private partnerships and the involvement of the non-governmental sector are understood to be key elements in this development strategy.
