Interactive Cultural Experiences Conference

On March 13th, 2008 in the conference room "Greenhouse in winter" of the Urbino Ducal Palace, the "Heritage Alive!" stakeholder meeting took place. It focused on new forms of access and promotion of the historical-cultural patrimony of World Heritage sites through the application of emerging communication technologies.

In the morning session there were keynote speeches from Claudio Ricci, Deputy President of the “Italian Cities and Sites of the World Patrimony UNESCO” association, and Lorenza Mochi Onori, supervisor for the Historical Patrimony of the Marche Region, regarding communication and knowledge in the management of the UNESCO sites.

The next session provided a snapshot of emerging IT applications in the area of communicating cultural heritage content. This included speeches by Alessandro Bogliolo, Manager of the Institute of Sciences and Information Technologies of the University of the Studies of Urbino "Carlo Bo", and John Pereira, Project manager of the project "Heritage Alive!", who illustrated different applications of interactive cultural experiences. Finally Paolo Rotoni, responsible of the international and community relations of the Marche Region, showed the lines of action of the European funds for developing ICTs.

The afternoon session was dedicated to the showcasing of the six Heritage Alive! pilot actions with demonstrations of the virtual tourist guides and learning quests followed by lively discussion with the audience on the experiences of developing and testing the applications in the six regions.
