The third Heritage Alive! Partner meeting - New ways of World Heritage mediation led to Salzburg!
The Heritage Alive! Partners came together to present their work and discuss the potential of digital technology to tell cultural heritage stories.
Salzburg, 21. June 2007 - Heritage Alive! management planned the meeting as a working session and an internal showcase for the six pilot actions. The agenda was tight, but the spirits were high with the expectation of seeing the pilot actions in "action" - and the results did not disappoint. The pilot actions promise to become a major success! In Gorlice, Urbino and Kardzahli the three Learning Quests have been successfully trialled with the help of the local schools. In the words of one of the participants in the Gorlice trial: "I did not think, that this small wooden church where I pray so many times could be famous all over the world. But now I am aware how extraordinary and unique is my temple. The "Heritage Alive!” project has helped me much to understand it", which provides testimony to the impact that providing new engaging forms of access to cultural heritage content can have on the young. There was not only a greater understanding reached but also a sense of ownership and pride amongst the young towards their local cultural heritage content. This new experience provided them with a sense of excitement that they now want to share with their colleagues beyond their region.
The three Virtual Tour Guide applications for the city of Salzburg, Holloko and Sigishoara are now in the testing phase, each has a unique set of technology features that best mediate their special cultural heritage sites. The demonstrations showcased the richness of the very different stories, that can - and should - be told about Europe's World Heritage Sites! More details on these pilot actions will be available online soon.
